The next Cornwall Founders Club meeting will take place on Friday 19th June 11am – 1pm with Bill Clarke who founded one of Cornwall’s most successful agricutural businesses, Trewithen Dairy.
We have heard real stories from real exited founders. This isn’t what you can ever read in a text book. Whilst every story is unique, the learnings can be applied across many other businesses.
Bill Clarke is a Cornish dairy farmer and entrepreneur who founded Trewithen Dairy with his wife, Rachel. Starting as a small family bottling operation in 1994 at Greymare Farm, the business grew into a major regional dairy brand supplying supermarkets, wholesalers and food processors across the UK. From 2007, two of their sons joined the company and helped drive its expansion.
Bill built long-term relationships with Cornish farming families that supplied the milk, as well as with staff and customers, guided by a strong commitment to local farming and high-welfare, ethical standards. He helped shape Trewithen into a business associated with integrity, community and environmental responsibility. In 2015, his son Francis became Managing Director, and in 2024 the family sold the business. Francis remains a director under the new ownership, with those core values continuing to guide the company.
Today, Bill is recognised as a significant figure in Cornwall’s agricultural business community — a founder who built a substantial enterprise, exited on his own terms, and continues to support the region’s rural economy.
Cornwall Founders Club is just for founders of equity businesses. It’s not a general business networking event and this exclusivity means the conversations can be more open and frank discussing topics that might be unsuitable for others.
